(KSDK)-Heard those tornado sirens around the area yesterday? It was Missouri’s way of kicking off Severe Weather Awareness Week.

.

The National Weather Service, the State Emergency Management Agency, and Missouri's local emergency management offices urge the public to use this week to plan for the severe weather season.

.

The sirens will sound again today at 1:30 p.m. for the statewide tornado drill.

.

Each day this week will be dedicated to a different severe weather topic. Yesterday’s focus was preparedness, while today will be tornado safety. Wednesday is flash flood awareness, Thursday is severe thunderstorm day, and Friday is NOAA weather radio day.
