A while ago, I was in a relationship that was wonderful in the beginning, but ended up turning into a nightmare! I must admit, I learned a lot from the experience, but it did some damage to my heart and my ability to trust and I just didn’t give myself the time it takes to heal before moving on to the next one.
This is what happened, when I decided to end the relationship, I almost immediately got involved with someone else. While it helped me keep my mind off the other guy, it was bad in that I still had open wounds that hadn’t healed. So after I saw where the new relationship was going (because we both had issues) I decided to take a break from dating altogether – and it was the best decision that I could have made!
Listen, when people say take some time to yourself to heal before you get into another relationship, they know what they’re talking about! Sometimes you just don’t know how much emotional damage a bad relationship does to you, so I guess that was what I learned from it all. When you don’t give yourself time and space to process everything, to learn from it and heal, you can end up bringing your own unhealthy emotional baggage into the new relationship and the cycle just repeats itself…and there will be no inner peace, no inner joy and no inner fulfillment, which was the problem from the beginning.
If you are expecting a relationship to make you happy, peaceful and whole, you are not ready for a relationship. You can’t expect a anyone to fill you with love, peace and happiness! You have to fill that space yourself BEFORE you get into a relationship if you want it to be beautiful! If you want a healthy, loving and successful relationship with someone, do yourself a favor and first learn how to have a healthy, loving and successful relationship with yourself! You can do that in the time it takes to heal. -love, sj
