Newark, NJ mayor Cory Booker is about to go on food stamps for one month just to prove a point to one of his Twitter followers, who will join him in the challenge with the belief that no family should be “too poor to afford breakfast” if they are receiving government assistance.

In a conversation on Twitter, the Mayor received harsh responses from one of his followers that claimed the above statement as well as that, “Nutrition is not the responsibility of the government.”

Mayor Booker then cordially invited the Twitter follower to participate in a “Food Stamp Challenge,” in which both will try to feed their families for a week by living solely on food stamps.

The University of Bridgeport sent a response via Twitter offering to referee the challenge, which will begin in December should the follower accept.
