Look for the Godfather of Soul to soon come to a theater near you.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Deanna Brown-Thomas, one of James Brown's seven children, said that prior to his passing, her father was intrigued but wary of any movie based on his life, especially since it would dramatize his troubled life and drug problems. "Daddy was hardly looking for anybody to do his life story," she says. "He was flattered, but it wasn't like he was super-excited about it. He wanted to make sure that these things that came out that weren't so great wouldn't look so bad."

Now Producer Brian Grazer, who also produced the Eminem film “8 Mile,” has teamed up with legendary rocker Mick Jagger to complete a film about the singer that he has been trying to make for well over a decade. The movie's original script is being revised, and casting is expected to begin soon.

Grazer says that his hope is to show the full essence of the self-proclaimed “Soul Brother Number 1” in the biopic rather than accentuate only the negative parts of his life.

“Our focus would be when he was in late 30s, but we would capture the great high points and some of the really palpable low points of his life,” Grazer said. “We want to capture the string of amazing hits like ‘It's a Man's Man's Man's World’ and ‘Please, Please, Please.’ In our first draft, we had 30 performance pieces.”
