Preparations are being made for another wave of wintry weather today on both sides of the river.

MoDot officials said that crews in the St. Louis region are ready to handle the roads and are watching today's weather very closely, while the most important time will be during morning rush hour.

“It’s been really challenging with this event because it’s hitting other parts of the state really hard,” said MoDot spokesperson Becky Allmeroth, “We have sent other crews to other parts of the state. It’s a balance between how many crews we send away and we keep here.”

On the Illinois side of the river, IDOT said it will get help from the state police and monitor roads.

The forecasts for the Metro-East are a chance of freezing drizzle and snow north of I-70

IDOT officials said they will watch the precipitation and road temperatures in hopes the air temperature stays above the freezing point.

IDOT district operations engineer Joseph Monroe said if residents see snow they should watch for accumulation on the bridges and overpasses that could turn into ice.

IDOT said if the roads need plowing and salt then it will send out trucks on the interstates. Officials also urge drivers to allow themselves a few extra minutes time today.
