“Richard Pryor: Omit The Legacy” a documentary project from Richard Pryor's widow, Jennifer Lee Pryor, will make its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival this year.
According to sources, the Richard Pryor Estate gave director Marina Zenovich access to photos, other mementos and his personal diary, all of which were used to produce the film. Many of Pryor's friends (Whoopi Goldberg, Robin Williams, Mel Brooks, Quincy Jones) and family opened up for the project as well. The film is said to focus on Pryor's transformation from successful but mild stand-up comedian to successful but dangerous social critic.
The film is also slated to be broadcast on Showtime. The move comes as part of a new documentary series showcase titled “Closeup,” which will give measured and complex looks at the lives of several notable public figures.
The Tribeca Film Festival runs from April 17-28 in New York City.
