Have you ever thought about adopting or being a foster parent? Majic 104.9 has teamed up with Lutheran Family and Children’s Services of Missouri to help place children in loving homes and families.  Help change a life...

Meet Araya, Azeria and Tia

Have you ever heard the chuckles, giggles and full belly laughs of young children? Well, Araya, Azeria and Tia, are those children you hear laughing at the park, see running through the sprinkler or cuddling up with their favorite toy before bedtime. These little girls are just waiting for a family to come and sweep them off their feet and into a pair or pairs of loving arms.

The girls were placed involuntarily into foster care in 2008 when their birth mother, who also was in the foster care system as a child, was unable to provide proper care for them. They can be shy around strangers, but warm up once they get to know you. They share a strong sibling bond and desire to be living in the same home, which only Azeria and Tia are doing at this time.

Araya, age seven is a muscular little girl who has beautiful dark brown skin and brown eyes. She is a very talkative and is described as being funny, nurturing, loving, sweet and observant. Like many girls her age, she enjoys playing dress up, listening to music, singing and dancing. This seven-year-old is already getting in touch with her thoughts and dreams by journaling and drawing. Araya is a resilient little girl who has experienced multiple moves with her birth family and a few since being placed in foster care. Follow-up for special medical and educational needs are in Araya’s background. She will need to have a family who will be able to follow-up on her progress and continue services.

Her four–year-old sister, Azeria has a slim build, brown eyes and a glowing medium brown complexion. This four-year-old is a not unlike many preschoolers, she is active, curious and talkative. She can already verbalize how she likes certain things and can even be bossy at times. Azeria enjoys drawing, coloring and any arts and crafts activities. She is not afraid of animals, finds pleasure exploring her surroundings and interacts well with other children and adults.

Tia is the baby of the group. She celebrated her first birthday earlier this year and is thriving. She was exposed to drugs at birth, but all reports have indicated that this has not impacted her growth or development thus far. She is walking, babbling and curious about her surroundings like other children her age.

Araya, Azeria and Tia would blossom in a single parent or two-parent home. The plan for adoption has been introduced to Araya and Azeri. Araya is beginning to understand what this means and is benefitting from receiving counseling where she shares her feelings about this transition. A family, who sets consistent boundaries where firm and loving discipline is present, is exactly what these adorable girls need.

The judge would like to have a family that is ready to adopt the girls before terminating parental rights; therefore, the parental rights of their birth parents have not been terminated. The girls will be placed in their adoptive home as a legal risk placement. For more information contact LFCS’ Majic Adoption Village worker at 314-787-5100 or 1-866-326-LFCS.

Meet Chante’ and Destiny

Destiny is a loving, polite, nine-year-old, African-American little girl. This 3rd grader can be shy and timid around strangers, but does not have a problem giving orders to her younger sister. Destiny and her sister share a room together and have a close, loving bond. Their foster mother lovingly noted that Destiny is consistently known to have the neater side of the room.

Destiny also enjoys sharing a good laugh with her sister and foster family. If you are in the house when she is watching “Saddle Club”, one of her favorite cartoons, expect to hear a deep, projecting belly laugh. Destiny needs encouragement and assistance in regards to her academic skills. She likes school and enjoys math class the best. She does struggle with mastering reading skills. Destiny enjoys playing outside, particularly jumping rope. Destiny would like to become an expert at performing “Double Dutch.” She likes building with blocks or Lego’s, coloring and watching videos. She is not a picky eater and will eat almost any food offered without complaint.
When she grows up, Destiny would like to be a “super-duper doctor”. A vacation to explore the beaches of Hawaii with her adoptive family would be a dream come true.

Chante’ is a happy, social, six-year-old African-American little girl. Like her sister, this first grader is equally content playing outside trying to master the skill of jumping rope. She enjoys playing at the park, skating, swimming, watching television or playing “dress up”. Her thirst for an active life, full of activity sometimes gets her into trouble, but she is easily redirected. This energy level causes her to struggle academically in school. Chante’ will need a family who will work with her to become a focused, successful student; setting firm expectations during the school year. She has seen the impact a teacher can make in the classroom and would like to be a teacher when she grows up. Chante’ is a junk food junkie and loves snacks of all kinds. She also enjoys eating and needs to be reminded of eating healthy portions. Her favorite foods include her foster mothers chicken, rice and green beans.

Destiny and Chante’ have been in foster care since 2007. They have three older siblings with whom they would like to remain in contact and have visits about once a month. Termination of parental rights occurred for both girls. They are legally free and available for adoption. If you are interested in becoming the adoptive family for this wonderful sibling group, please call, 314-787-5100 or 866-326-LFCS. You may also send an e-mail to amynewell@lfcs.org.

Meet Delonte

When you meet Delonte, he is generally quiet and reserved, but after spending time with him, his charming and witty side comes through. This confident, seventeen-year-old, African-American young man makes a memorable first impression. Not only is he funny, he is also very mannerable, personable and has a charisma that exceeds his age.

There are many talents and dreams that Delonte holds. He dreams of playing professional basketball and being the next NBA sensation. He is also a budding artist who specializes in tasteful graffiti-type art work. If you visit his room you will proudly see a gallery of his creations. Delonte is eager to further hone his artistic talents. Delonte also is an avid football fan, and would love to sit on the couch and watch a game with his adoptive family. Other pastimes that he would like to share include playing video games and going to the amusement park.

Reading is one of Delonte’s favorite subjects in school. To help keep him on track, he receives extra academic support through his school district and would benefit from having a family who appreciates his academic achievements no matter how big or small. Additionally, Delonte valued the opportunity to participate in his schools ROTC program. The structure and dedication needed to excel in this program were all things he appreciated and continues to need in the classroom.

Finding a family to spend holidays, share birthdays and just hang out with are important to Delonte. He would do best in a home where rules and expectations are loving , yet clearly defined and implemented. All parental rights have been terminated and Delonte is legally free for adoption.

Meet Mekhi, Lathe and Ardazaya

Mekhi, age 10, is the oldest of this fun bunch of kids. He has a wonderful personality, makes friends easily and is often thought of as having comedic talents; making his siblings, friends and even adults laugh. This fifth grader enjoys music, physical education and is academically a good student. Mekhi’s teachers feel that he definitely has the potential to become an above average student if he focused more on his school work. Mekhi enjoys playing outside in any season. Additionally, he takes pleasure in thinking of himself as the “video expert”. Oneday, Mekhi hopes to have a career as a professional soccer player.

Lathe, age 8, is the middle child, who has already exhibited a talent in a range of athletic activities and drawing. He is a nurturing, sensitive, caring young man who sometimes needs to be encouraged to join the group, since he does not have a problem playing alone. His “favorite things to do list” includes being outside playing, as well as, taking care of babies, small animals and children. Lathe would someday like to own a dog, cat, or rabbit. He is in the third grade and enjoys Science class. In the future, he would like to be a professional basketball player or a veterinarian with a small animal practice. If neither of those professions works out, Lathe said, he could be a great baby sitter!

The youngest sibling, Ardazaya, age 6, is quite the girly girl. This soon to be seven-year-old is in the first grade and is eager to master the skills required to read. She is an independent young lady who has an “I can do it” attitude. Additionally, she thinks she can do whatever her brothers are doing. She enjoys swimming, playing with Barbie’s, coloring, working on puzzles and jumping on the trampoline. Ardazaya hasn’t decided what she wants to be when she grows up, but says that she has plenty of time to decide.

Mekhi, Lathe and Ardazaya have been in foster care since 2006. They are ready to have a home where they can begin building happy memories as a family again. They would do best with an active, energetic family that doesn’t mind participating or watching sports and being outdoors. It is the desire of the many people who love these children that a loving, engaging and nurturing family that can provide stability, consistency and a sense of belonging is quickly located. This sibling group has benefitted from receiving counseling services and needs parent(s) who will support the continuances of these services.

There is no legal risk; termination of parental rights has occurred on all three children. If you are interested in, or want more information about Mekhi, Lathe, and Ardazaya, please contact Amy Newell at at 314-754-2768 or 1-866-326-LFCS.

Meet Carla and Glenn

Carla and Glenn are two adorable African-American children who have been in foster care since 2006. They are fun-loving active children who love being around other children, as well as adults. They have a lot of love to give to an adoptive family and would thrive in a home that is filled with laughter, love and even a large extended family. They are both ready to have a home and a family that they can truly call their own.

Carla, whose legal name is Carasha is a lively, inquisitive twelve-year-old little girl, who does well in school and enjoys playing sports, especially softball. This sixth grader already has aspirations to become a Judge and is not holding back on being a good example for her brother and peers by following rules, being helpful and showing respect for others. Other hobbies for Carla include dancing and playing computer games. When dancing, she has a natural stage presence and desires the opportunity to take dance classes. At times, Carla has difficulty discussing her feelings about her birth family and is participating in counseling. Continuing counseling services with her adoptive family will help Carla learn to communicate difficult issues more effectively. Carla does not have any health issues and is of average size for her age. She has a beautiful smile that enhances her light brown skin, long dark curly hair, and dark brown eyes.

Six-year-old Glenn is excited about turning seven-years old in October. This charming “little man”, with his partially toothless grin is funny, lively and full of energy. Glenn is a lovable child who enjoys playing with cars, computer games and doing silly antics that make people laugh. One of his strengths includes problem solving and when an obstacle presents itself he works hard to figure out a solution to the problem so that he can get what he wants. Glenn struggles academically and benefits from receiving additional services through the school system. With support and consistency, it is believed that Glenn will one day work at grade level. Glenn has a medium brown complexion, black hair and dark brown eyes.

As stated before, Carla and Glenn were placed into foster care in May 2006. They have an older sister who they maintain contact with even though she is not in the same foster home with them and does not want to be adopted. They would like for their adoptive family to support regular contact with their sister and foster mother. Additionally, the family who adopts Carla and Glenn should be willing to participate in recreational/social activities with them, be patient and attentive to their needs. The parental rights of their birthparents have been terminated and they are legally able to be adopted.

If you are interested in becoming the “forever family” of Carla and Glenn please contact Amy Newell at 314-754-2768 or 1-866-326-LFCS.

Meet Johnetta & Jasmine

These entertaining sisters, Jasmine and Johnetta, are ready to let their winning personalities unite with their new forever family!

Older sister, Jasmine is an attractive, reserved fourteen-year-old young lady.  She has bright eyes and a lovely smile, which she is showing off more than ever since her braces were recently removed (since the photo above).  Like many teenagers her MP3 player and cell phone are two things. She loves basketball and has a passion for reading, especially biographies.  Jasmine is a happy girl, who has made great strides in overcoming many issues in her life by through counseling.  Each year, Jasmine is benefitted from her IEP (Individualized Educational Plan) which helps her strive to reach goals set by her teachers and a team of individuals who believe in her educational success.

Johnetta is a lively, affectionate 12-year-old with a “cheeky smile” that says “look at me world”!  She is very outgoing and when given an opportunity enjoys performing before an audience.   She loves doing projects that involve working with her hands and is a very talented student in math.  Keeping focused on one task can sometimes be a challenge, but Johnetta is working hard at building this skill.  This confident pre-teen does not let her speech difficulties hold her back; she talks freely with great excitement—about EVERYTHING!  With her therapist, she works hard to defeat issues of her past and is making great progress.  Like her sister, Johnetta benefits academically from goals set within an IEP (Individualized Educational Plan).

Their birthparents rights have been terminated and they are both legally free for adoption. For more detailed information about Jasmine and Johnetta, or to learn how to become the parent of this “dynamic duo” contact Amy Newell at 314-754-2768 or 1-866-326-LFCS.

Meet Delsheia

Delsheia, is a beautiful 12-year-old, African-American little girl who entered foster care when she was just 6 years old. She is looking forward to being in a loving adoptive family. She is tall, thin, and when you look at her photo you can see her affectionate smile. This pre-teen takes pride in her appearance, enjoying the latest fashions. Her hobbies include cheerleading, dancing, talking on the phone, and listening to music. Delsheia is in the sixth grade and like many children her age; she needs to focus on making her education a number one priority. In order to level the academic playing field, Delsheia receives additional classroom assistance.

In the six years she was with her birth mother, Delsheia and her two siblings moved around a great deal living with a wide range of people, which of course did not offer her the stability she needed. Due to these circumstances, and a lack of receiving medical care for a year, they were placed into foster care. Unfortunately, Delsheia and her siblings had to be placed in separate foster homes, so one of her greatest joys is spending time with them.

The judge who is overseeing Delsheia’s case wants to find a family to adopt her before terminating her birth parents rights. Consequently, this adoption will be considered a “legal risk placement”. The family that adopts Delsheia can have her placed in their home as a foster placement while the legal proceedings are taking place. Delsheia is a lovable young lady who very much wants to be adopted and hopes that this does not impact a family’s decision to consider adopting her. She would also like to remain in contact with her siblings after she is adopted. The family who adopts Delsheia will need to be strong advocates to ensure that her educational needs are met, as well as, have the ability to set clear boundaries and expectations . A strong mother and other female relatives can help Delsheia see what others see, a beautiful girl on the “outside and inside” – this constant assurance will help increase her self-esteem. Receiving therapy has been extremely helpful for Delsheia during her time in foster care and will need to continue when she transitions to her new home.

If you are interested in becoming Delsheia’s “forever family” please contact Amy Newell at 314-754-2768 or 1-866-326-LFCS. Meet Markayla, Deanna, Deandrea & Dean

Markayla, age 10, is the typical “big sister” of this bunch. She is an energetic and enthusiastic child who does not have a problem meeting new people. Markayla has an upbeat personality and is not shy even when her surroundings change. Markayla is in the 3rd grade and working at grade level. In the past, she has struggled academically, and needed additional support from her foster family and school. Markayla does not have any medical needs and will thrive with a family that offers a positive, structured environment.

Deanna, age 8, is initially quiet, but once she gets to know you, she is quite the opposite and reveals her friendly, extroverted disposition. She is in the 2nd grade and works slightly below grade level in reading for which she is receiving tutoring services. Described, by her foster family as a “typical child”, Deanna may get upset when she does not get her way, but quickly settles back into the routine. Although small for her age in comparison to other children, Deanna is in good physical health and does not have any medical needs.

Deandrea, age 5, has an inquisitive nature that is part of the charm this affectionate, chatty child possesses. Her bright eyes and infectious smile are beautiful assets to this aspiring singer and dancer. Deandrea also likes to draw and color and is very anxious to learn to read. She does well in day care and is looking forward to going to Kindergarten. With the exception of digestive issues that may cause occasional diarrhea, Deandrea is in good physical health.

Dean, age 3, is an active, happy little boy. Like his two sisters, he is also small for his age. Developmentally on target, Dean enjoys playing with his trucks and looking at his collection of children’s books. He is very sociable with other children, but with all the excitement of being with friends, he may need to be reminded to settle down. Dean’s medical needs include respiratory problems, ear infections and digestive issues that can cause diarrhea.

draw you in and pull at your heartstrings.

Ar’Mondre is a soft-spoken, independent, happy child with

until he gets to know them. Once a relationship is
established you will observe his charming, engaging and
talkative side. Ar’Mondre enjoys cooking, has a passion for
building things and loves activities that involve art. One of the things that gets him most excited is the anticipation of opening a present or receiving a gift. Top on the list as one

very proud of his himself. Currently, he is most proud of his success at spelling.

as the youngest child in a home his “leader” disposition impacts the older children to follow
him. He is also very protective of the people in his life.

A two-parent family, with an active, strong and involved father would be ideal for Ar’Mondre, who will thrive in a home that offers consistency and structure. A single father, with those same qualities would also be a great option for this creative little boy. The parental rights of Ar’Mondre’s birthparents were terminated and he is legally free for adoption. Meet David and Deja

David and Deja are currently free for adoption and want a loving, safe, and stable adoptive family to call home. Like most siblings, they couldn’t agree on specific characteristics of their ideal family but agree they prefer to have a two-parent African American family. They are open to being the only children and/or having older siblings (teenagers) and friendly household pets.

David often takes on the big brother role, especially if Deja feels threatened by others. Deja states, “David makes me happy. We care about each other.” They have a typical sibling relationship where Deja tends to tattle on David. Deja and David are not currently placed together but visit each other as often as possible. They participate in individual therapy to address separation, loss, and grief issues surrounding foster care.

David is a husky 10-year-old boy with brown eyes, short cut hair, and a medium brown complexion. He has glasses but doesn’t like to wear them. David is active, engaging, funny, polite, and has an infectious smile. He can also be stubborn and an instigator at times. He is generally cooperative but sometimes requires firm redirection and clearly identified boundaries. When faced with expressing his emotions, David has a tendency to “shut down.”

David has some developmental learning delays that require additional educational services. His favorite subject is Science and his most disliked is spelling. David likes a variety of activities, he enjoys playing kickball, basketball, swimming, bowling, playing video games, and going to Six Flags. His favorite foods are ice cream, fried chicken, pizza, most fruit, and green beans. His favorite cereals are Frosted Flakes, Cheerios, and Cocoa Puffs. David enjoys listening to rap and church music. He is a good dancer. He would also enjoy attending church on a regular basis.

Deja, who is 9-years-old, has short brown hair, dark brown eyes, and a slim build. She has a medium brown complexion and is often times considered taller than most girls her age. Deja is pleasant, polite, and can be easily distracted. She thrives on individual attention and has a tendency to try to please others. Like David, Deja does require firm redirection, consistency, and structure. At times, Deja also has difficulty in expressing her emotions and finds fantasy life easier than dealing with reality.

Deja enjoys coloring, drawing, reading books, swimming, and going on vacations. She likes anything that relates to Hannah Montana, Bratz, High School Musical, That’s So Raven, and Zach and Cody. Her favorite foods include ham, chicken nuggets, sweet potatoes, pizza, macaroni and cheese, fruit, and corn. She dislikes broccoli. Her favorite subjects are Math and Writing.

Deja and David are legally free for adoption. For more information regarding Deja and David contact LFCS at 314-787-5100 or 866-326-LFCS. You can also e-mail Vonh@lfcs.org.

Meet Per'Deshia

Per’Deshia has been described as a “bubbly, out-going teenage.” She is a happy young lady who laughs easily and can be playful. Per’Deshia can be quite a jokester. She enjoys practical jokes, whether giving or receiving them.

Per’Deshia is on no medication and has a strong average I.Q. Her talent for writing recently won her an award for a school composition. Her foster mother indicates that Per’Deshia’s poetry is “amazing!” Per’Deshia has been known to use her talented imagination to embellish on her life’s stories in an attempt to impress others and gain attention. Like many children in care, Per’Deshia has learned fantasy can be better than reality.

Per’Deshia generally listens and does well with authority figures in the home, but she does tend to have trouble when corrected by teachers at school. This year she has set personal goals which are, “to put my best foot forward, maintain a good attitude, and achieve no school suspensions.” Per’Deshia is looking forward to becoming involved in extracurricular activities for the first time—perhaps joining the volleyball team.

Per’Deshia loves the water. One of her favorite summer activities is swimming. Her foster mother has indicated that Per’Deshia swims like a fish, but can’t tread water at all—a skill Per’Deshia admits it would be useful to learn. Per’Deshia attended summer camp for the first time last year and had great fun.

Per’Deshia is good with, dogs, cats, and children. She is not a picky eater and will try almost any food.  She does tend to have a bit of a sweet tooth. Per’Deshia is trying to control her appetite however, as she recently lost weight, wants to keep it off, or possibly loose more.

Per’Deshia remains optimistic about her future and wants very much to be part of an active “forever family.” She would like a parent(s) who could participate in and be supportive of her activities. Per’Deshia has a strong spiritual faith and would benefit from a family of that could provide strong core values.

Per’Deshia would succeed in either a single or a two parent household that could provide stability, love, guidance, and offer her the experiences and opportunities she deserves.

Termination of parental rights has occurred. Per’Deshia is legally free for adoption. If you have an interest in, or would like more information about this delightful teen, please contact Von Hulin at 314-787-5100 or toll free at 1-866-326-LFCS.  You may also send an e-mail to VOnH@lfcs.org

As of March 31, 2007, there were 9,818 children in the custody of the Children’s Division in Missouri. The average age of children in foster care is just below 10 years old. Their average stay in foster care is over 27 months.

National numbers report that the foster care system has a disproportionately high number of African-American children, and on average they remain in foster care nine months longer than Caucasian children before moving to permanent homes.

The latest federal figures showed that in 2006, 32% of the 510,000 children in foster care were African-American, compared to 15 percent of all U.S. children.  Please considering becoming a parent to a child that needs a home.
